Basic animation questions

Hello,

I am a novice Houdini 7 user. There are two basic
things I cannot seem to work out on my own:

-how does one assign an object to follow a path?

-is there a way I can get the software to draw a path
that describes a specific object's movement? Meaning
a curve that shows the animated object's trajectory
at each frame.

Very basic issues, but there is no help available on
the “path” operator, and I cannot seem to get the
search to work.

On another note, whenever I seem to shift animation
using the dope sheet, it messes up my tangents. Am I
doing something wrong?

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hi Mariano! Welcome to Houdini.

I'd recommend that you first go through some of the basic tutorials available in the user guide. Try clicking on the question mark in the upper-right hand corner. Then pick User Guide. There should be some general tutorials. Otherwise, there's also the old 5.5 tutorial Introduction to Object States here:

As for the dopesheet, how are the tangents messed? Could you describe your specific situation?

Hi Mariano! Welcome to Houdini.

Thanks for the quick reply, I will check the link.

As for the dopesheet: perhaps “messed up” is a bit of an
exaggeration. It happens whenever I have an “untied” keyframe.
If I shift the keyframes in time using the dopesheet, the “outgoing” tangent will have been smoothed out. Not exactly a catastrophic
event, but it does become slightly time consuming after a while.

Thanks again.

That looks like a bug to me. Thanks!
