I cant understand how to animate smoke.

I read and searched a lot about it, but still is not very clear.
The manual say you can render particles as sprite. but what about turn particles into smoke? I really cant find something about it on the manual.
Seens like smoke is another beast and has nothing to do with particles.
Cause in other 3d packages you animate particles and make smoke from them. At least some i know.

I read too about custom velocity fields. But seens too much work for move/animate the smoke.

Is there any article/tutorial about animating smoke, like move it in a specific direction (by a spline for example) of turn particles into smoke?

Here is a file of particles driving the source of a fluid smoke simulation. Also a flipbook of the sim. Simple smoke from points shelf tool, with an added gas dissapateDOP.

I am trying to learn as much as possible from the file you posted.

Just curious if i can use the default Pyro in this example file?
