Hi
I have weird problem with Explicit Cache Files for very hard simulations on the Disk
I have a pyro simulation (e.g Flame) and I set “Division Size” to some small number like 0.015 ,Then I use “Explicit Cache Files” feature to save my simulation's data on the Disk ,After start to simulating ,every things works good and my simulations saving on the disk per each frame ,But when I test these cache files in the Houdini ,Houdini can't load some of the files (e.g after frame 150) !
Exactly like this cache files are empty ,But the file's size on the Disk is OK (e.g size = 3,256,127 KB )
This problem appear just after specify frames like 150 or 220 and first frames works good.

Also I have same problem with Flip Fluid simulations (e.g Particle Separation = 0.01)
Maybe Houdini can't save cache files after specify size correctly :?

I thinks this problem is not for my Hardware !

HDD Free Space : 1.5 TB
RAM : 48 GB
CPU : i7 3820
VGA : GTX 570

OS : Both Win7 and Linux Mint 15

Thanks..

Hi

I have no idea about the problem. I did a same thing but everything was fine. Also, you may try writing in .bgeo format. It is more stable for me…

cheers

Really thanks my friend

Yes ,I had to save my files in the bgeo files finally ,for example I used “ROP Output Driver” in the “import_pyro_build” to save my fires on the Disk.

But in this case I don't have my simulation's data like Explicit Caches !
When I using .sim files ,e.g I saving my simulation from frame 0 to 200 ,then I can continue my simulation from frame 200 to 300 later !
In the bgeo files , I have to resimulate my fire from first frame again :!:
it's something like to save my fire without any history of the simulation .

Also I used “ROP Output Driver” in the AutoDopNetwork ,But I had same problem too

T

That reads as a 3TB file. How big are the files and how many voxels are there? Could be that you're running out of ram.

Ha Ha
It's obvious that I was wrong (3,256,127 KB)
I wrote my system's information at the above Topic 8)
However ,it's not important ,I need a solution please

How do you calculate the voxels without the unit size? I don't see the unit size of the pyro simulation.

HOooom :?
my unit Size of the Pyro is not very Large , Something like <<10 , 12 , 10>> by Default Houdini Unit.

However It's not important ,Because I tested this problem with too many simulations with different Size and Options and results are same !

Otherwise my simulation cached to the RAM correctly ,But after certain frame and Size (e.g frame = 150 , Size = 3.5 GB) I can load them in the Houdini ,They are empty in Houdini,But they have correct size on the Disk !

I had this same problem before, but I didn't have much time to investigate and only lost about 10 frames so I worked around it. I used the option to only keep the last 5 .sim files, so that I had a backup incase anything happened, but still don't fill up the disk. It worked fine to restart Houdini and continuing the simulation from them at the start, but eventually it stopped working even though they had the correct size on disk (which I assumed meant they did contain the correct data). No idea why.

I haven't needed .sim files since, so I haven't had the chance to investigate further as well.

Thanks ,Maybe I have to do same too
