It has been awhile since I used Houdini so i am a bit out of practice. I was rigging a character this morning before work and started making the skeleton. When i completed the left leg, the bones changed from the nice traditional triangular bones to these sausage looking things. What gives? They looked like bones before I right clicked. Can someone help me with this?

That sounds like the capture regions are displayed. You must have somehow entered the edit capture region mode. Do you still see your bones inside the pill/sausage shapes?
In the viewport hit TAB and then select either the bones state or the pose state depending on what you want to do. Either should display the bones as normal.
The trick is finding just the right hammer for every screw

If that doesn't work, try from the top menu Settings > Objects > Bone Kinematic Override: None.

Thank you, that worked.
