Hey,

How do people make this kind of super high resolution textures like 8k or 16k.
The maximum resolution of very expensive cameras is far away from this.
So, i kind of wonder how they can make this…
Maybe a stupid question but I did Google on this and couldnt find a answer..

Regular cams are now in the 8K ballpark (the latest gen), but for textures you typically use other methods than just “taking a gigantic picture”.

For example you take several pictures and stitch them together for a larger image (we use PTGui Pro for that, for example when taking reference skydomes on set, but Photoshop has an automatic stitching method, too, these days).

For textures that are actually used on objects and not for technical or compositing reasons you take several photos and paint and stamp them manually into a bigger one, the way you need it.

Often the large texture sizes are also coming from 3D painting software like Mari, where you take lower base textures and paint them onto the models which get then loaded off in relatively large texture tiles - the resolution of the final texture sheets do not necessarily mean you need to capture your base photos in a resolution that high, your original photo might cover only a small portion of the final texture.
