normal sop is for polygon u can attach normal data to point, vertex, primitive, but not vdb ( either as sdf or fog )
you have to convert it first to polygon again before you can apply normal sop…
the question is what are you trying to do with that vdb?
my thought is… i think this is (youre seeing pure white )more of a driver problem…

I've seen tutorials where when the mesh is a VDB mesh and I'm sure most of you work the same, except me at this point; whereas the VDB mesh is a crude smooth shaded preview in Houdini viewport. I makes it extremely difficult see the results of VDB in the viewport when it's simple a white silhouette.

VDB=“Voxel Data Base” or “Voxel Data Blocks”
Voxel= volume metric pixel
AFIK theres no such thing as VDB mesh to become mesh it has to be converted…
I'm combining the terms into one and using the node as the terminology to describe VDB, my mistake.
Geforce Titan running nVidia driver 368.39. I'm up for a team viewer session ?

I tried a normal SOP after the VDBFromPolygons SOP, didn't solve the problem, here is a screen capture.
Sorry, I misread what your problem was. That picture doesn't even look like a VDB being displayed, looks more like polygons constant shaded to me. Well, unless you have a super small voxel size compared to the size of your geometry I guess. Does something dead simple look like that too? eg. default box sop followed by a default vdb from polygons.

You are correct it does appear as polygons constant shaded, which it is; as well to answer your other question the same visual display in the viewport happens with a sphere converted to VDB with the node VDBfromPolygons ?
