Hello all, first post.

I'm a complete beginner to Houdini, and am still rather baffled at how it works compared to other tools out there (baffled in a good way). One thing I'm trying to do at the moment is causing me a little trouble.

I'm trying to split up an imported character model from iClone Character Creator, so that I can apply individual materials to the correct areas for further work using ZBrush and Substance Painter. I've noticed that when grouping selections, if I need to add more faces to the group later on I need to either type in all the point numbers by hand, or it creates a new group node if I select faces and press enter.

I don't mind this, however it adds an extra step where I need to go into the new group, select all the point numbers from there, then copy and paste them back into the first group node, before deleting the new one. Is there a way I can automatically convert my selection to the point numbers that will allow me to simply select the faces then paste the numbers directly into the initial group node?

Apologies if this isn't as clear as it could be, as I'm still a bit lost with the whole process Thanks.

select the groups node you want to change and then click the white arrow on the far right of the Base Group parameter
this will put you back into selection mode and you can then add (shift click) or remove (ctrl click) from the group

You can use the Group Select button on the first Group Create SOP. It's the rightmost button next to the Base Group parameter. Upon clicking it, it'll display the input geometry, and automatically have the previous selection selected, so you can just hold Shift to select additional points, then hit Enter when you're done to accept the selection.

I find that I almost always use the Group Select button on any nodes where I want the operation to only apply to an unnamed group, though I know that many people like to first select, then put down the node.
Writing code for fun and profit since... 2005? Wow, I'm getting old.
