Just bought the 2-year license and it's crashing on a simple sphere, yay.

Seen this?

Houdini 16.5.0.405
Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 (6.1.7601)

Steps:
1. create Sphere
2. create Skylight
3. create Mantra object
4. hit ‘Render to MPlay’
5. MPlay appears for a moment and then Windows reports Mantra

Also crashes if we go to the Render View tab and hit Render.

Could you post a HIP file that reproduces the crash, or does it only happen when created from a blank scene? Did you create a camera as well? The Mantra ROP normally errors out, (but doesn't crash), if there's no camera.
Writing code for fun and profit since... 2005? Wow, I'm getting old.

Thanks. The file I included contains a camera.

Support recommends we update our video driver, so will do so and see how it goes.

Your file renders fine on my system in Houdini 16.5.412 and using your camera, both in render view and MPlay. Had to create a mantra node though for rendering first. While I'm not a technical expert this might help to locate the problem in fact, perhaps system or driver related.

Hope this helps,

Arcite

Thanks for checking. SideFX Support thinks it's a hardware driver version… will find out tonight…
