Hola!

How do I do this in Houdini?

I have made some guide hair curves on a scalp in DOPs, have them animating just dandy, but now I want to interpolate between all the guide hairs constrained to the surface so that as many new curves as I choose will constrain themselves to the surface at a point between surrounding hairs, interpolating the animation of the other guide hairs (like shave'n'haircut would do it or maya hair).

I can do it by skinning the guide hairs to a surface, resmapling the surface and then extracting the U or V position resampled surface curves. That inovolves a fair degree of selection on my part and I was thinking if there is a way to do it more procedurally. I am rendering through renderman, is it better in this instance to try it as a rendering process in the rib? If you could give me pointer for a Houdini route, that would be fanastico!

Sounds like the Fur SOP. There are a couple of examples of this on the forums. Use the forum search with “guide AND hair” as your search parameter.
