Hello everybody,

I am building an new rig and I'm still not clear if i go for Intel or AMD as CPU.

The Threadrippers (3960 & 3970) are a huge gain, for example:

I know that Intel CPUs are tremendously faster when things like Intel MKL (Math Kernel Library) and NumPy come into play,
because of the wider SIMD AVX512 instructions they use. For Example heavy use of AVX512: https://www.anandtech.com/show/15044/the-amd-ryzen-threadripper-3960x-and-3970x-review-24-and-32-cores-on-7nm/6 [www.anandtech.com] >>3D Particle Movement v2.1: Brownian Motion (with AVX)

I have seen here http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/licenses/index [www.sidefx.com] that Houdini uses third-party libraries and Intel tools like MKL, TBB and also the Embree ray tracing kernel.

Does this mean that Intel CPUs are better for Houdini? Are they faster or is neglectable?

Best,
Christoph.
