hello

im working with aces and lightning wise its great

but been on a recent job I stumble upon a problem with my workflow that is very basic ,

i cant get an the exact 1 to 1 color from a color sample that a client sent me.

so i tried a couple of methods

1)

being the obvious

converted 0-255 to 0-1,

that did the job, but since im working with aces (i guess) when ever the “apply color correction” switch is on in the color editor,
it shows me how my color will really look like.. and its way off

2)
i tried importing the color sample as a jpeg into the color editor, but i couldn't get the color right there as well
i played around with the
view ,pick ,input opencolorio colorspaces option in the color editor, but could get a proper 1 to 1 color

so my question is how do you guys get a 1 to 1 color with aces
and why is it a problem just entering in values with aces

thank you

If both images are in the same working colorspace and display space then you should be able to read the corresponding values from a color picker. Also check the color picker option in the color settings.

ok i got the colorpicker to work the trick is not to click on the “colorpicker” tool and then ry to sample but just have the “show an image to pick color from” open and just sample with out clicking on the “colopicker” first… i hope it helps some one

but im still wondering why i cant just add the numeric value after i convert it from 0-255 to 0-1..

Probably because just scaling down the values isn't the correct mapping to make between the two spaces. It's cool that the color editor has that option to do it for you. I didn't realize it until now but there's tons of options in the editor if you want to do it manually.

Color picking is supposed to be using the ocio color_picking role. However, I've investigated color picking in 18.5 and it appears to be completely broken. Color picking space is always ignored regardless of toggle state. Picking from and image is broken because the image is double corrected – linearized and then also applying the input space.

Right now the best you can do with a given swatch is sample the color as a texture and use an ocio transform node to convert to the working space.
