How do I reset color and shape to standard defaults on nodes

Hi,

I recently started experimenting with different shapes and colors to create a more clear visual view of all the nodes. At this point I would like to reset it all to Houdinis standard default and start over. How do I do that? Is there a backup file that contains all this information and if so, where?

Cheers!

Hi,
I don't know if there is a global reset button for this. If you want to set some nodes to their original shape or color, then you can use the context menu (right click on node) Action / Use Default ... .

Otherwise press "D" in the Node Graph to open the Network View Display Options. Under Themes you can create new themes or use the default.
You can find the themes files under:
$HIP
*:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini **.*.***\houdini
default.nodecolors or default.nodeshapes

Cheers! What worked was to go into Themes in Network View Display Options and then delete the current Default Theme.
Then to make all the nodes in the projekt to update I used this:

opdefaultcolor -r /

It's all fixed now but cheers

I also feel like the viewport grid is very thick when working on my own PC. At work the grid lines are much finer. Can you tweak those? Did I mess up the settings on my PC?

The Houdini Cofig folder contains the UI color scheme files:
3DSceneColors (view port) and Node Graph.
$HIP/config/NodeGraphDrak.inc
*:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini **.*.***\houdini\config

NodeGraphDrak.inc if you are using Dark Theme. There you will find a variable called GraphGridLines, you can specify the color here. You can't set the thickness (as far as I know) but you can set the color, if you choose a similar color in relation to Background, it won't look so thick anymore.

I personally use Axel Schoterman UI Theme [axelschoterman.com], which I have slightly modified. For example, under Edit / Color Settings I set the gamma from 1.0 to 1.35, because it is too dark for me otherwise. This makes Houdini look 10 years younger.

Ah sorry understood Node Graph, so same story in 3DSceneColors.dark. Try to modify the variables GridColor and GridLineAlpha. Unfortunately you always have to restart Houdini to see changes.

But you can make a screen of the current UI and adjust the colors in Photoshop for example, and then modify it accordingly. That's how I did it some time ago.

If you want the Gizmo colors to be similar to Blender or Cinema, then you can use the settings.

XaxesColor: 0.90 0.18 0.30 # sticky x axis
YaxesColor: 0.18 0.90 0.60 # sticky y axis
ZaxesColor: 0.18 0.66 0.90 # sticky z axis

And check if your viewport uses antialiasing. Press "D" in the viewport to get to the Display Options. There under Scene / Antialias Samples you can determine it. High values will make the lines look thinner, but that slightly drops the frame rate.

Yeah I noticed that my ColorCorrect gamma was at 2.2. I set it to 1.35 with default theme and now it looks good
