When i box select on a geometry, however hard I try, I cant get Houdini to not select points on the rear of the model. I have tried the front/back toggle, that didnt do anything. Ive searched the help and the interface for anything that might be relevant. Its crippling to want to edit some front points and have the rear ones going haywire. Someone put me out of my misery and give me the easy answer! Thanks.

Sadly there is no way to do this with box selection. Lasso selection, on the other hand, will omit the obscured points when picking on shaded geometry, so try that instead.

wow, im pretty astonished about that, considering its possible in Milkshape 3D, which costs about £15!

Surely this is something they should look at to implement - it cant be that hard.

Well, there's quite a few reason's why I still non-procedurally model and texture stuff in Max,

but I don't think there's any other programs that could procedurally select and isolate/color/or whatever else all polygons that are facing a certain axis or camera without script. Houdini that's pretty simple.

Been asking for box select to respect that backface toggle for years, still waiting, maybe H9…..
In fact I think the entire selection process needs an overhaul. But I think its low priority for Sesi. Which is fair enough with H9 coming out. Maybe 9.1?
The trick is finding just the right hammer for every screw
