This is not to ignite a flame of one vs. another

I was thinking on subscribing and trying Redshift. However, I feel very comfortable working with Karma lately.
So, a question for those of you with more hands on experience. If you could share your thoughts? Is RS that different/better gpu renderer?

My workflows... Characters and scenes. Animation and style frames with more sequence rendering in 2026.
So I value correct lights and materials in viewport/gpu rendering, fast iterations where I can art direct stuff.
Renderman is cool, v27 in particular ( old love ) but compared to Karma, introducing more hustle for features I don't really need. Dof, displacements, hair/fur, procedural workflows, all works with Karma.
+ I appreciate having everything I need in default Houdini's setup.

Thanks in advance.

Karma looks great, but what is really missing is the ability to create custom object masks for reflections and refraction trace sets This makes it quite difficult to use for product shots

What is particularly strange is that these features are available when launching Karma from SOPs, which suggests this is specifically an issue with the Solaris implementation

I have already sent an RFE I hope to be not alone

Karma ROP just uses LOPs inside, so if whatever feature you are talking about works there, then it works in LOPs, just dive inside and look how it's implemented

sure thing, that's what I think too
no time to dig into much tecnical stuff, delivery is the keyword and no expereienced TD to ask to. if you can give anhelp to the community it's very much appreciated : )

I saw a video about lpe tag yesterday, but no explanation on how to set up correctly masks on objects

it was more a general note

since AFAIK Karma didn't support reflection/refraction masking last time I checked, but if you say it is working for you on object level, rendered with Karma ROP, then it must be possible to set it up in vanilla LOPnet, but I haven't seen it being supported yet
