Hi,

I've been trying to get a license for Houdini 6 Apprentice but I've been unsuccessful so far.

I have installed Houdini 6 on a small machine running Linux (Mandrake 9.1). As it is a standalone machine with no internet connection I had to get the license from sidefx license site manually from another machine. I gave my server name (localhost) and my server code (00000000) but the server name was rejected. I presume both values are wrong. I know I can change this in the Houdini License Administrator, but I don't know what value I should give.

Please can anyone help me? (I am a newbie both in Houdini and Linux!)

Thanks in advance.

Below is the Houdini License Administrator diagnosis

Hi there,

From your post, I believe a network card is not installed. Unfortunately, a network is needed to generate a valid server code.

Please go to this link [sidefx.com] for more information which will hopefully get you up and running with Houdini.

I hope the above helps!

Cheers!

Hi, thanks for your answer.

I installed a network card in my machine. I could change localhost to “bluemoon” for the local server name and the local server code is no longer empty. But now the server will not start. Can you help me further?

Thanks in advance.

Some information:

====================
====================

hserver -l gives:
No server found at localhost:1714

Launching hkey from a terminal gives:
Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2
Spawn error : No such file or directory
Argument list:
0: xmessage
1: License Error: Unable to connect to hserver for license acquisition
No server found at localhost:1714

Below is the Houdini License Administrator diagonosis

Hi there,

I would have to ask you to search through the forum (here's a link [sidefx.com] to get you started) and also odforce [odforce.net]'s forum for possible solutions.

Mandrake 9.1 is not officially supported but I remember reading success stories from some users.

Cheers!
