Hi, I'm running through an issue with the blast operator or the delete key EVERYTIME… I don't get why but when I want to delete a polygon with Blast Houdini crashes immediatly.

I run build 241 on a macbook pro 2.6Ghz…
Does anyone has the same problem ?

thank you for your answers

Hi ,
No problems here using the latest daily build. Does the scene crash blasting a poly from a sphere in a new scene ?. If not post up your scene

hi,

yeah no matter the scene is, it crashes even with a simple box … I guess that if it was a bug of the build itself guys of sideFX would have noticed it immediatly .. I'm a bit concerned do you think it could come from my system or something like so ?!…

the CONSOLE displays

02/11/08 22:53:14 .com.sidefx.Houdini 369: Fatal error: Segmentation Fault

thank you for your answer anyway

Hi ,
For starters can you download and use the latest daily build. Next in a clean scene create a cube , select a poly face and blast it away. Im using a 2.5 ghtz macbook pro with 4 gigs of ram with no problems in doing this.

Hi Rob,
I just tried with v.276… the problem is still the same…

I guess it might come from my system then .. I don't really get why though …

thank you for your reply

I hope people of sidefx will find an explanation to this

Well lets start looking at this. Can you list your system specs. If this is happening to you in a simple default scene its a good bet your machine is causing it. If ou are a licence holder maybe you should speak to support.
I have OSX Leopard 10.5.4 and apart from the odd openGL issue , its running really well with Houdini.

Hey Rob,

I run Leopard 10.5.4 as well on my 2.6Ghz with the GeForce 8600 (512Mo) GPU and 2Go RAM (it's actually the very last build of macbook pro before the new designed model)

I run v.241 apprenticeHD license. (also tryed the daily build 276 as you told me, making nothing better)

besides this issue everything seems to work perfectly I've been running
I've been using Houdini since the beta version, unfortunately I've been playing around with RBD and Fluids during these months without really using (and so noticing) issues during modeling process

what else?!…

I'm not really a computer geek (that's why I use a mac hehe) but maybe you would need more infos on my system

I'm gonna go check on Nvidia website if an update could be necessary

thank you for your help Rob

Well I have the same model mac book as you with 4 gigs of ram .The only difference would be I am using a licensed version of Houdini. What happens if you use apprentice ?
Does your crash log give you any information ?

Hey,
hmmm well this is really odd,
so I've tryed with Apprentice, then with older versions until the very 1st Beta (.155)
and it still crashes the same way

the log file seems like chinese to me I don't recognize anything in there

I post it up if you want to have a look at it

thank you Rob

cheers

It might be a ram issue. You could upgrade to 4 gigs of ram. I upgraded to 4gigs of kingston ram , it cost $114 Aussie. At least that way you could discount it as being an issue and 4 gigs of ram is always handy.

It's unlikely due to be memory in this case.

@jlautret: Did you do what circusmonkey said but doing the blast on a cube? And the crashlog you posted is a result of doing that?

Hi Edward,

yes the crashlog I sent is the result of a deleted polygon of a simple box in an empty new scene.

to Rob: I'll try this upgrade thank you for the tip.

thank you everyone for your support

Can you post up the exact same scene that crashes ?. I must say its rather odd one operation causes your machine to crash even after you have installed different versions of Houdini. Can you do this crash with any other node ?

hi Rob,

this the scene file with a simple cube…

it really starts to bug me

and I've also noticed the very same crash with the “comb fur” node… anyway that's another topic

I dunno if this file will reveal something crucial..

do you know how I could contact a developper?
I know they post in here sometimes…

cheers

I have looked at the file and it works fine. See the attached file where I have added a few blast ops to the scene. I would be interested if you can try to open it. What other nodes crash your machine.

it crashes almost immediatly after loading , just had the time to see a few geometry with some faces off

I think the last thing I can try is to format and reinstall my system …

thank you for trying anyway

i'll let you know

How about this …

1. Start up empty Houdini
2. Open up a Windows > Hscript Textport
3. Type in: echo $HOME/houdini9.5 and record the value.
4. Quit Houdini
5. Rename the directory from step 3 to something else like houdini9.5.old
6. Start Houdini again and wait for it to regenerate the icon cache.

Now does loading the .hip file work?

Ok Edward !

ok it works now, thank you so much

I had downloaded a lot of assets just to have a look at them, maybe some of them were corrupting something, I should have thought about this
