Smoothening Stitching in Houdini

Hi all, got a modelling question that has been bugging me, just got started on Houdini Appren edition, I've modelled half of a figure using simple polygonal modelling(no subdivision). Half which is an arm and a leg, attached to a torso with the faces deleted at the points where I want to mirror and stitch them together.

After mirroring the model, I applied Polystitch to the 2 halves and subdivide to smoothen the figure, problem is I have a very obvious stitch line at the seam where I applied the polystitch. Coming from Max/XSI/Softimage, this can be solved by changing the surface continuity angle, is there such a feature in Houdini? I've used Fuse with the same results.

Is there a step I'm missing or is there something I'm doing wrong? Pls advise, thanks!

Hi Yeow Chong,

You can use a Smooth SOP on the seam to see if it helps. Also, you might want to check for degenerate vertices/polys along the edge before mirroring. You can turn on Point or Primitive numbers display to help you.

Not the best solution but you can try using a Dissolve SOP to dissolve the seam away.

I hope the above helps!

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply steven!

But the Smooth and Dissolve OPs instead of smoothening the seam, it will delete the whole stitched area away, bringing me back to square one, 2 separate objects.

I've attached some pics on what I'm experiencing.

Hi Yeow Chong,

Try turning on Consolidate Points in the PolyStitch SOP then append a Fuse SOP. Also, try adjusting the Distance parameter of both SOPs.

I hope the above helps!

Cheers!
