Is there a way to have the guide hairs or the preview hairs to draw the lines with gradients?

I find it easier to judge the flow of fur styling/combing when the lines have ramps on them in the viewport.

It is especially good when you get into tight areas… instead of just seeing a mess of lines you can read what is happening based on the flow of colour.

Does adding a ramp parameter in the contained “guides/add_varying_attribs” VOP SOP achieve what you are looking for? Use “hairdist” for the ramp's input and connect the output to Cd. Also, the Fur Object's “Use Guides” parameter should be enabled. You can limit the ramp colour to the guide hairs by setting the “Transfer Attributes” parameter in the Guide tab to “* ^Cd”.

The only thing that could make that better is to be able to use it with the “show guides” option in the comb tool. As the guides are faster to comb by themselves and they be just blue lines.

Now I am just being greedy….
