here Igor describes one of the ways to blend them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=merqe0uYrKM [www.youtube.com]

Igor goes into quite a bit of detail, but doesn't quite touch exactly on what's going on inside his blending vops.

Would love to know specific settings (or any other method available) if anyone has tried this approach before?

I agree, and He didn`t make available to download the hip.

In houdini 20 you have node call flip volume combine, that do same thing that i did in my presentation in h19.5
its also better then what i had because you can use it for wwater sim blend also

I did free tutorials on Karma Water FX render
So everything from Mantra we transfer to Karma, you also have example scene files. So maybe this can help

video]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN0SbcReOek [www.youtube.com]

The problem is this video uses the same shader from mantra, but the procedural shader from karma also allows us to control the displacement, a thing that this node of video doesn't.

Not sure if i understand, control displacment in what way?

Hello. Probably off subject, but I'm trying to simulate the sinking of an object in a tank, and can't find a proper or clean way to disable the Narrow Band sim. Any tips? Thanks.
I am looking for the same thing. I don't know enough about how the narrow band is constructed to know what to change to get the old flip tank back.

Oop, nevermind, I found it. When you use the shelf tool it creates a narrow band tank. Just go to the flip object in the AutoDopNetwork, and under the Initial Data tab change it from narrow band to Particle Field. It should then give you the old flip tank setup.

Sorry for late reply, yes under inital tab you can chage to old flip tank setup.

thats very cool!

Would be nice to read some articles about the usage of this new feature. I turned on the narrowband option but i think it is not working at all.

So i guees that there is more steps to configure it. Am i right?

Cheers

NarrowBand in ON bu default when you create Flip Tank from Shelf, you just get small layer of fluid inside your container. Its best to use in Tank setup where you need more depth to get proper look of your simulation,

Hi,

Great! So you created this shark scene for the 16.5 demo. Did you use the new “incompressibility” feature for bubbles, or how did you achieve this “boiling after splash” effect? This makes it exceptionally real, I think. This phenomenon is usually missing from water sims or not enough real.

No i didn't use new “incompressibility” feature, everything come from simulation, because now tank have more depth, not like in past where you are limited to have only surface to save memory and sim time. So everything come from collision and flip simulation.

I used 2 workstations for this test

i7 4790 with 32GB of ram and 2 x Xeon E5 20core per cpu with 128GB of ram.

Hello Guys,

Saber Jlassi and Igor Zanic are glad to announce the formation of REBELWAY CO, an online school that will focus on producing the most high-end online training.

Our goal is to teach Sidefx Houdini primarily along with high-end renderers like SolidAngle Arnold and realtime rendering technology like Unreal Engine 4.0.

We are proud to announce our very first workshop aimed at teaching Procedural Assets Creation In Houdini. This workshop is for all 3d Artists who want to dive into Houdini and use it for environment creation for VFX and Games.

You got some good info here about your problem, and how to solve it.

Here is one more idea that you can try, using Raytrace and deepshadow maps

Hi Brandon,

You can try using convetVolume, or convertVolume with volumeResample to add more details and use diffrent filters.

I did simple setup, with velocity transfer to mesh.

Not sure about your houdini settings, but i manage to run 80mil particle sim in houdini with only 20GB of ram on linux,
https://vimeo.com/74197060 [vimeo.com]

And 55mil, with small grid scale ( use more memory) with only 18Gb of ram
https://vimeo.com/82942136 [vimeo.com]

Be sure to optimize your scene before run some high res simulations.

hi redpaw,

Before export to alembic, if you display WORKING null node, you have subframes motion, only after export to alembic look like you lose subframes and only have integer frames. So maybe something with alembic export.

Hi,

First i think you need more resolution in flip simulation,
you can try to change smooting to 0.125 or maybe lower insted of 0.3,
but with more resolution you will get more splash look

i did similar test https://vimeo.com/65490463 [vimeo.com]

Hi johnnycore,

Yes for my flood scene i used VDB meshworkflow, i notice if you have flat surface its little hard to get clean mesh, you need some smooth filtering, but for flood, waterfall stuff mesh was fine.
