I guess it could be a graphic driver issue. I think you should provide professionals more info about your system.
I got a segmentation fault error on startup too on my notebook, and i solved it reinstalling laptop vendor official graphic drivers (downgrading from ATI's new ones).
I'm getting this issue too. I have run previous versions (10 I think) of Houdini without problems. The splash screen of Houdini master shows but then Houdini console pops up with “2224: Fatal error: Segmentation Fault
Saving application data to …”
The number before fatal error seems to vary each time.

Well the only possible solution suggested to me was downgrading my graphics drivers but I wasn't prepared to do this. Hopefully this will get fixed in Houdini some day soon; until then I'm running this version on Linux on the same machine without problems.
So I was trying to install 11.0.504 for win64 and I was getting the hang-up at the splash screen and wasn't able to get any further. I rolled back to 10.0.595 and it works. I'd recommend the roll-back to anyone else having this problem.
