cant get houdini 11 apprentice to install correctly.

in middle of install of Houdini 11.0.581 32bit vc8 .exe i get this ;

error opening file for writing:
C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software|Houdini 11.0.581\hsvg\hsvg.exe

I clicked on Ignore The installation continued
After some unpacking it began to process fonts Inthe Houdini Console Window
then it said execute C:\etc……..\hkey.exe
The Houdini License Administrator window opens and gives me a choice to install ( or reinstall my free Houdini apprentice license automatically install a noncommercial license (internet connection required.

Or to install a paid license.

The free apprentice choice is already highlighted, so I select next
the end user license agreement window opens.
I accept it.
The administrator tells me the non-commercial licenses have been installed, successfully.
the installer finishes and closes and then I try to run the program.

But it crashes
I double click on my pc vista desktop houdini icon
Houdini error window pops up

data saved to hip

Houdini console shows
2732 Fatal error: segmentation fault
saving application data to
CUsers/Jill/AppData/Local/Temp/Jill.2732.hip

but it was a crashlog file

anybody got a clue? what I should do besides give up, uninstall it and forget about running Houdini on my DELL Studio 1535 laptop?

Can you launch a fresh Houdini session?

What graphics hardware/driver do you have on your laptop? Search these forums for what others have done.

Did you search the forums for other issues similar to this? I believe that anti-virus software can sometimes cause issues during installs.
