Hello! I am writing some help documentation for a custom tool. I have a custom icon in that tool, but it won't show up on the help page – all it shows is the default “blank page” icon.

Can anyone look at the attached HIP file and see why it won't work? I've tried everything, but am currently trying this:

#icon: opdef:Object/icon_test?IconImage

which is what is reported in the icon field of the digital asset. I also have another copy of it embedded in the “extra files” part, but that won't load for me either. Help!

Unfortunately the help server is notoriously useless when attempting to use icons that are anywhere but the Houdini install directory. There's really nothing you are doing wrong, it's all the servers fault. Unfortunately this has been a problem for quite a long time and is probably of a low enough priority to remain so for a while.

I got a bug open with Houdini and they're following up on this. Those low pri things are the sweeteners that can push Houdini to a state of elegance!

I'll report back when I get something out of them!

This is working in H12.0.634.

You'll need to add the icon as an ‘Extra File’, since the helpserver will need to know what type of image it is.

Then, you can refer to the icon like this.

#largeicon: opdef:.?MyIcon.png
