I could sure use a deal on the software being I don't use it commercially. Just that the features are in the higher end version that I am looking to learn.

there is a apprentice HD version for 99 dollar, it renders in hd and has all features, though I think You can not use different render engines and the fileformat is hipnc. If You don't need hd rendering apprentice is fine

Which high-end feature are you looking to learn? - AFAIK there are only 2 export rops disabled- fbx & abc and the resolution of rendering for sequences is limited to HD.

ApprenticeHD has everything else from the high-end version.

It can export OBJ?
I want to learn the advanced method of having a wave crashing on the beach shore. I have looked around at hiring someone personally to give me a demo through fuzemeeting etc. But none seem to reply after they have posted their videos on youtube and vimeo.

You should be able to export Obj. What happens when you try?

It came out as obj. But Until I can learn the properties of making it more dynamic instead of properties of waterfall looking into realflow is one of the only options left. Freelance teachers are hard to come by.

Out of interest what does RealFlow have that you don't find in HoudiniFx?

You might have already but checkout this tutorial:

thats the one I refer to. I have to wait a few days or weeks for a friend of mine to create the fluids for me in their version to teach me the work flow. The second version of that which goes into rendering. But I think http://vimeo.com/84200776 [vimeo.com] is what Im shooting for.
Is there a demo on scenes like this? or someone that replies to emails that knows how to make a scene like that?
I have been looking into boxx technologies but im not sure if houdini works like vue does in being able to use a render node to get simulations done faster.

The tutorials come with all the materials, you should be able to follow along and recreate it. You might need Houdini12.5 though, not sure, as particles workflow has changed in H13.

I'm not aware of any crashing waves demos.

Distributed simulations is supported in the commercial version, I'm not sure if the Apprentice has it and not exactly sure what Boxx offer.

EDIT: Distributed sims require an HBatch license that needs to purchased separately.

Did you check this tutorial about “Houdini Continuous waves with fliptank” !?

https://vimeo.com/73122303 [vimeo.com]

Also to see Interesting sample about FLip Fluid ,Check Igor Zanic profile on the Vimeo :
Braking Wave Sample :
https://vimeo.com/65490463 [vimeo.com]

One of the Interesting feature about Houdini's Simulation is you can do anything in the same Dynamic Network and All of them can be have Interaction with together without any special tricks ! (Cloth , Pyro , Flip , Particles , Rigid Body)
All of them use same Force , Collision and etc
