I do believe it is possible to use any geometry as a starting point for a terrain.

The main restriction would be that Heightfields are expressed as elevations on a grid, so you can't do overhangs (nose, chin, etc). But if that's not a problem then Heightfield Project should work to place the object onto the heightfield.
