I'm doing flip simulations in Houdini FX 18 and just upgraded from 16 GB RAM to 48 GB RAM. Houdini still won't go over 4 GB of memory usage and will start dumping cached frames at the beginning of the simulation to keep that limit.
Do I need to change a setting or reinstall Houdini now with the new ram installed?
Houdini is maxing out at 4.0 GB memory usage.

Houdini uses as much RAM as it needs. Increasing the available memory pool does not increase usage. There is one setting which can increase ram usage, which is the dop cache. The default is 5000MB. This is only used to store the result of the simulation in memory. It does not improve simulation performance, and can sometimes make it worse. It does however make it possible to play back a cached simulation without writing to disk first.
