FBX import issues

I'm trying to import a rigged character and somehow I can't seem to render the newly assigned material in Houdini without first deleting all primitive attributes for the geometry in every single SOP.

If I don't delete all primitive attributes first, the geometry renders completely white, no matter what material I assign to it.

I'm exporting a rig from XSI, but also tried going trough Maya with no luck. Tried the Labs FBX importer as well with the same result.

Is there some secret trickery involved to properly import FBX files ?

I noticed it's a "shop_materialpath" override attribute that gets imported with the FBX that seems to be the culprit. Even when I disable importing materials with the FBX, Houdini seems to add a material override attribute.

This also sometimes happens when I import a basic Obj file. I first have to delete the attribute before any material I assign has an effect.

Has nobody else noticed this annoying "feature" ? And more importantly, is there a way to disable this ?

This is extremely annoying when importing FBX files with a lot of separate objects, especially since it's not possible to edit multiple objects at the same time in Houdini which is another topic...
