Hello,

I need some help on creating a pyton script (shelf tool quick action/button) to rename selected objects based on hip file name and some variations inside the geo container objects. Would be great if someone can help on this.
I added the hip file with the use case.

Tks

There are limits to the character which can appear in a node name, also all node names must be unique. It's not a good idea to name nodes like files, you're bound to end up with mangled names due to automatic character replacement.

Yes - I know, but for this specific use case it will help. Also - the nodes in the geo container have unique name. I just want to append the hip file name to it. Can you help in this case? tks

You should google around. I quickly found this example. Which shows how to iterate over a selection and obtain hip file name.
