Hi there,
Im a complete beginner although I have been happy with Houdini tool set so far. Ive ran into a problem while trying to export into other apps such as substance or Unreal.
My render come out looking like its been through a furnace! Please see below. I am exporting at an FBX after creating a subnet.

Hi,
Are you using some PBR image textures inside Houdini materials? Each app will have its own way of dealing with shaders and materials, but the PBR textures provide a way of having a similar look by pointing to the same data source (the image on disk).
But the material setup itself you usually have to do in the app. For Unreal I know Houdini has some integration, you can even use the HDA / Houdini Engine workflow (https://www.sidefx.com/docs/unreal19.5/_materials.html [www.sidefx.com]).
I sometimes had trouble exporting the material names depending on the file format, then what I do is adding a primitive wrangle, with the following, assigning a string attribute for each of the materials you have before the "file" node:
s@shop_materialpath = 'Your_Material_Name';
