For Mardini 2026 Day 31, I wanted to push refractive complexity as far as possible, stacking multiple layers of refraction to see how they interact with each other. My preference for liquid simulations led me to create this piece using Vellum Fluids for the liquid and Vellum for the ice as well.

I also extracted particles from the simulation to generate bubbles, adding another layer of detail and motion within the fluid. The entire scene was created in Houdini, including the final render using Karma XPU.

The render was done with 9 bounces for reflections and refractions, allowing for deeper light interaction and more realistic optical behavior through the stacked transparent materials.
