I got some good tips in my last post on a similar topic, so I wanted to get some feedback about my latest round of Karma tests. This is a much simpler scene: one light, no motion blur. The main challenge here is SSS.
I tried various Karma settings and I found the only thing that reduced noise was upping the pixel samples. Attached is Karma 128 samples 3m13s, Karma 512 samples 10m24s and 3Delight 2m21s. Any ideas how to get the time down on Karma while having less noise?
By the way, 3Delight works GREAT in Solaris. It's actually kind of surprising how on top of the cutting edge they are. HIP file and geo attached.

Regarding Karma, doesn't increasing SSS samples help?
Hmm, turned out pretty good. This is 32 pixel samples and SSS cranked up to 8, everything else cranked down. 3m11s. MUCH better than the other 3 minute Karma render, but still a tad noisy.

@Brian are you seeing a big color shift in SSS between pathtraced and distributed/variance mode?
Yep, same here. Distributed/variance is more vibrant.

Sadly there is no info about these different modes in the docs.
