Unfortunately 21 still crashes every 90 seconds or so on Nobara 42.
I hope that this can get resolved soon. Is it working well on Fedora 42? Can anybody confirm it is working or not in other Wayland only distros? Thanks!

Hey I did a system update and sync which updated my Nvidia drivers to 580.76.05 as well... and voila now it works without crashes!
So houdini 21.0.440 seems to work fine on Nobara 42 Wayland!
Awesome!

I've found this env variable fixes mouse issues in qt6 build/wayland
both in network view and when scrolling goes crazy (like disappearing parameter pane)
(so you can put in houdini.env)
i guess it's mostly connected to widgets that tries to work both for touch and mouse events
not sure if it's houdini specific but could be used as a workaround

QT_XCB_NO_XI2 = 1

Well I'll be a son of a gun! Can confirms that works on CachyOS, too! For anyone wondering how to do it, on Cachy I simply added the line to the following file using sudo nano:
/etc/environment
Now, if anyone can figure out how to make Houdini play nice with Nvidia drivers after 580, that'd be the last missing link for me. I managed to track down that it's an XID error 69 that happens when the UI freezes, but I haven't been able to figure out what to do with that information LOL.

tommygdawgI had to go back to 580.126.20... the newest 595.58.03 is a no go :-(.. UI freezes up too much.

Same
590 did, too. I was hoping with 595 it'd be fixed. The AI showed me how to find that XID error, but none of the suggestions it gave for fixing it worked.

I can confirm that mouse wheel is working on Fedora 43, thanks for the find!
I do however have another weird issue with my Wacom tablet where it inverts the buttons that I set up on the control settings it does not happen on X11 anyone else having this issue?
About the stability I think it was much more unstable on Nvidia driver 580, on 590 I feel it is better but sometimes I got some weird freezes when I after start to use XPU I guess but I will try too pin down exactly when it happens.

should we report bugs we encounter, or is it not worth it since wayland isn't officially supported?
x11 isn't being maintained anymore, GNOME 50 just dropped x11 and plasma 6.7 will drop it too, all desktop software will need to either work on X-Wayland or native Wayland from now on.
so yeah, we should report bugs to help them make the porting efforts go a little bit faster

I think support Wayland should be a priority right now that is the way things are going on the professional environment.
And I can confirm that on Fedora Gnome Houdini 21 is not stable it freezes time to time, the way I am circle it around is to use Cinnamon on Fedora which it still works on X11 but I am not sure for how long, that is not ideal.

Hey,
from this discussion I take it, that the latest Houdini 21 should run on CachyOS with KD Plasma, right?
I installed it with no problems, but get a segmentation fault crash when I try to start it.
Anything else I need to install to get it to work?
I'm pretty new to CachyOS (2+ days), trying to find out if I can finally move to Linux after decades on Windows... :-)
Cheers,
Tom

The way I am using it is using Cinnamon or Mate on X11 which most of Studios were using as far as I know but for me Wayland is not compatible with H21 so far, good news is that is for most of distros is easy to install and switch if need I like Gnome a lot for most of things but when it comes to use Houdini I am switching to one of those environments for now.
