But , have you tried to build something (on your own and ask for help on both forums) which could help you in so many cases ?
Today, H18 presentation showed a “new Sweep SOP”. something similar i had done myself (without coding or even using the Sweep SOP itself) with Hou11 or H12. cannot remember. I am sure almost every Houdini user has built his own version.
as far as i remember, during a decade present on forums i havent heard so much requests about such a small thing as much as i have read last month (+YT+VIMEO) about a single SOP Node as .. Curve SOP.
Who am i to defend or justify SESI ? No one. But as a forum member i would suggest to solve this issue as in a Houdini forum: Start something > if help is needed ask > people will help.
Something more useful will come out of this. and above all, we all will learn as we do everyday on this forums.

it's been a while since i've posted here .. but the video presentation made me login , download H17 and post here .
i have not read comments above (sorry about that) but judging from threads title and opening post i just want to say ; H17 sounds another amazing step on the_well_thought path of Hou_s existence .
i say to myself “i did the right thing joining Houdini since V11” .
to be fair and keep it simple , Hou can ‘appear and act as others’ but ‘the others cannot’.
well Hou can do more than the_others but im trying to keep this relation as a comparative one .. and add to that the fact that the ‘winds of future’ go in Hou_s favor .
thats what i thought then and that is what i keep thinking after every Hou Release.
and after all these years this could have not happened if behind it weren't people with great vision and professionalism .
and so .. i say to all Houdini makers and contributors “Well Done and Keep Doing It ! Congratulations!”
one day maybe Hou will be an OS , lol

Hi mtucker,
I can't launch houdini at all, i get that error every time i try to run the application.
so i'm not opening any hip file since i have never tried houdini before ^^.
all crash log hip files are indeed 0kb…. so i'm not sure what's going wrong here… :s

i found the culprit !

yesterday , i started to hunt for the file .
deleted one .. started Hou .. crash !
deleted another one .. started Hou .. crash !
.. and so arrived at display_options.pref .
once i deleted it , i had access to Hou .
in order to give you a more detailed reply , today i continued few other tests .
i noticed that deleting display.pref and left display_options.pref , Hou starts fine .
when both ( mentioned above ) old config files are being read by Hou , i get crash .
( you'll find those attached )
test i did today was done in build_260

i know my situation is hard to reproduce , ( described in 1st post ) but i hope to see this thing fixed , since it simply has to do with display configuration files .
till then , hope my solution wd spare time , nerves and full config_dir's back-up and restore procedure to someone in future , which might be even useless as in my case .

hi everyone ,
i was working on a long session with H13.0.251 .
everything stable and fast .. i was in a good mood too ..
then .. something or somewaht mentioning “ Pools , Events , Queue & Co ” ( ! )
i have meet that before too . so , i saved the scene .
tried to reopen Houdini but failed . tried restarting my pc and latter Hou again .. and again failed .
anyone has had a similar experience and resolved it ?? ( Win 7 x64 )
any suggestion is appreciated since time is pretty precious these days for me ..

i just jumped today from H11 to H13 and the first thing i wanted to try was PointWrangle_SOP .
a very interesting approach in terms of workflow too .
with just a single line ( code below ) i reshaped a line on y-axis
, easily controlling that with two ui controls : a ramp and a float ..
@P += rampval * ch( “po” );
and just by adding an @ in front of an value assignment , we get an attrib . cool !
ha-ha !

Why you are using @ for global variables as ptnum and Npt read their value while it works with out this? Is this just a good habit?
from help :
The VEX sop context provides several global variables you can access, such as P, that correspond to attributes. While you can access these directly, we recommend you use the @ prefix for clarity.

I want to keep the topology of the curve, so resampling so that each length is the same is not an option.i wd suggest you to use Resampling in order to find the midpoint which ‘physically’ stands over the NURB .
depending on resampling ‘resolution’ , that point cld be as near as possible the ideal-mid-point *.
- you build a NURB line starting from there .
- use CurveSect_SOP to extract the half piece you want ( without affecting original NURB 's remaining knots )

* in my attached file select the look_at_DetailsWindow_for_Perimeter_attrib node to see and compare both halves' lengths .
in my case : a 0.001 length in resampling gives 0.00003 difference . hope thats enough for your case !

I do have to say one thing that I find a bit disappointing so far. I am a real big fan of nodal workflows because it allows the user to not have to worry about syntax, only the relationships between data. Its not that I have a huge problem with learning the syntax, but for simple relationships between vectors I would hope I could do it with pure nodal workflow.
i do not love code either
, so here is Adam's ‘wrangle’ suggestion converted in VOPs ..
objectMerge SOP nodes can help you to bring inside a ‘clean’ SOP network any item on scene or even any node from any other SOP network .
thats what i did ( added ) to Adam 's original file ..
