Hey Everybody,
for rigging, i think it is often very useful to see the names of bones and nulls in the viewport. the tag visualizer comes to mind.
Tag Visualizer [www.sidefx.com]
unfortunately, I'm unable to activate tags for nulls or bones.
Any help is very welcome!
Cheers

Houdini Learning Materials » New Operator Type: VEX Type Geometry Operator.... is missing

Hey Everybody,
I'm following a tutorial where you need to create a new operator type.
You are supposed to create a new VEX Type Operator with Geometry Operator as a Network Type.
The Tutorial is made with an older version of Houdini. and in the documentation, you can
still find the Geometry Operator Type. But in Houdini 16 it's missing.
How do you do it in Houdini 16 then?
Cheers

Hey Everybody,
I just wanted to share this setup.
I was searching for a way to carve multiple curves with a random offset in one go.
I didn't want to use a loop so this is vex and sops.
mostly an exercise for myself, but maybe useful to somebody.

Hey Jasper,
you could use a vop and use a turbulent noise to set an attribute.
And then use a delete by expression and delete all points that have the attribute exceed a certain threshold?
Or am i thinking to simple here?

You can also change the color in a custom 3DSceneColors file.
Just make a copy from here:
C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini 16.0.600\houdini\config
to here:
documents/houdini16/config.
Inside of this file you can change all kind of colors. with a text editor.
not very convenient but it works.
I changed my 3d boundary color to 0.0 1.0 1.0 like Softimage .
Cheers

Technical Discussion » Shortcuts for Functions Inside of RMB Menus

Hey Everybody,
I am wondering if this behaviour is intended or can be altered somehow. for example, i want to map the functions “show display operator” and “show current operator” to hotkeys. (these functions can be found in the RMB menu on the Toggle Selection Buttons on the left side of the viewport).
Assigning the hotkey works perfectly, but the hotkey only works if the menu is opened by a Right mouse click…. wich makes the hotkey kind of useless. This behaviour is the same for all functions that can be found in RMB menus.
And a lot of this functions are very useful, so I want to hotkey them.
Any idea or help how to solve this problem would be very welcome.
Cheers

Hey Everybody,
I would love to make customised radial menus. but there is some functionality in houdini I can`t “reach”.
For example, I want to include the “headlight only” or “no lighting” buttons into a radial menu. I don't know how to find the corresponding script snippets. When I use “commmandecho” in the textport it does not echo these buttons.
Thanks alot in advantage!

Hey MrReedSmith,
thanks for sharing your script! i would like to use it in Houdini 16.0557, but it gives me a “Syntax error(s) detected” message. do you know how to make it work in the current Houdini version?
Thanks alot

Hey Everybody,
I would like to know how to set rotations of a bullet rigid bodies sim to zero after the simulation.
I have a couple of spheres and they are simulated as packed primitives. After the dop import, i want to set the rotations of the spheres to zero. I use a point wrangle and set @orient to zero. in the spreadsheet, the spheres now have no orientation anymore. But in the viewport, the spheres still rotate. Any hint in the right direction is very welcome.
cheers

Hey Everybody,
I'm trying to create a Softimage style “gradient mixer” in Houdini.
What I want is to have a ramp in which I can plug textures.
So instead of having a ramp that goes for example from red to green to blue
i want a ramp that goes from concrete to grass to wood
Thanks a lot in advantage
Cheers CYTE

Hey Everybody,
radial menus in the network editor is a really great idea and could speed up workflow even more.
I think you guys did an awesome job with Houdini 16! Congrats!
I discovered a small glitch with the radial menus on my setup:
when i switch my Global UI Size to Large the radial menus appear with some rows of pixels missing(see attached image).
Cheers
