Hi
I'm trying to create a paper plane that lands on the ground or hits some object.
I thought that vellum and cloth would be the way to go, but effects are really bad.
Plane behaves like a cloth, do not keep shape on bending. I need something, that would keep shape in places where it was bent.

Using tetrahedral volume does not really help, as plane after landing does not keep shape (as in attachment)

How should I attempt to simulate such material?
Regards

Vellum is a poor fit for such rigid materials as paper. The best solution currently is to use bullet rbd with soft constraints holding it together. Then point deform the actual mesh with the rbd pieces.

I don't find vellum any worse than bullet for such situations
low resolution of your plane geo, low mass, high bend stiffness and enough iterations/substeps should easily give you result you are after

EDIT: oh, and for keeping the shape after deformation you may want to use plasticity for bend constraints

here's an actual paperplane the Falcon XXX

now it's time for you to roll up your sleeves and tweak, can't expect me to come up with the exact design for you

Wow guys, you are amazing. Especially treating the spine and wings separately was an awesome idea
Thank you all for helping. Vellum will do just fine for my task
