Any tips on how you're achieving this? I'm trying to solve a similar problem, where I'm trying to partition heightmap cliff geometry into rectangular-ish clusters in order to instance rocks.

Answering this for anyone else who gets this issue. Just need to right click the HDA > Type properties > Node tab > Editable Nodes (add labs maps baker here). Doesn't throw the permission error when its editable.
