Houdini documentation through the app does not load May 15, 2026, 5:05 p.m.
Sorry to revive an old thread but this happened to me for Houdini 21.0.700 and perhaps my solution will help someone.
Turns out it was a json file in Documents/Houdini_version/packages that was pointing to the Arnold installation for Houdini 20.5.640. Once I removed that json file, the next time I opened Houdini the Help browser opened just fine.
So if your Help browser doesn't open within Houdini, maybe try renaming the Houdini folder in Documents (if you're on a PC) and then open Houdini and check if the Help browser loads.

In case Houdini is SLOW to create/delete nodes May 4, 2022, 9:31 a.m.
Hi all,
I was going to post a question but instead will post a possible solution in case it might help someone.
After an upgrade to my HDD and Windows, the fresh installation of Houdini was exceedingly slow when it came time to create nodes of any kind (like 8 seconds between my dropping a node and its creation!).
After a lot of troubleshooting, I finally re-checked the license server and found it was pointing at our school license server BUT the "localhost..." entry was listed below it. Deleting the "localhost" entry has done the trick.
Now just the license server is listed and Houdini starts faster AND there's no slow down when creating/deleting nodes.
Hope this helps someone -- was driving me crazy!
