License troubles with Apprentice May 2, 2004, 10:22 p.m.

I get Apprentice installed just fine, but when I attempt to install the non-commercial licenses I am told I have an invalid hostname. I previously fixed this by changing my hostname it from localhost@localdomain to something@something.com. That was simple enough in Redhat 8, but under Fedora Core 1 I can't easily change my hostname. When I use the normal methods, X windows won't even display properly. Nice, huh? This is probably a Fedora problem so I'm not going to bug you guys about it too much, but is there any workaround you can think of? Even getting a license from the server manually doesn't work since it says localhost@localdomain is an invalid hostname. Thanks for any help.

App. Ed. 6.0 licensing under Linux June 14, 2003, 7:47 p.m.

Just use the C shell script. You should be able to just type csh, then source houdini_setup. I haven't been able to get the bash version working on Redhat, and since the other method works just fine I don't see the point in fiddling with it.

Problem with windows in Redhat May 26, 2003, 9:30 p.m.

Thanks for all the help. The window manager switching is a PITA. The most annoying part is that apparently Redhat at one time had window manager selection in the control panel, but has since removed it. Anyway, Sawfish is up and running and everything works fine. A quick tip. Unless you want to have a shell popping up every time you start X, run gnome-session-save through the command line in the toolbar instead of a shell.
