Houdini Development Path Aug. 10, 2026, 7:37 a.m.

Hi everyone,
I really like Houdini and its lovely development progress is amazing.
As a marketing point of view it's a logical move to try to get stronger in fields that have less users share like rigging and animation and rendering, I understand that but what about development in the main and stronger area.
When was the last big improvement in pyro or rbd or flip.
Instead there are bunch if sop level HDAs for new user for ease of use but what about the core.
Still using old and inefficient houdini volumes in solvers instead of VDBs.
I know it's a lot of code to work on but in the age of vdb and nano vdb and zibra vdb why we still have to use that?
Especially when these ram prices won't be fixed soon!

Btw thank you very much SESI for new theme thing, long time waiting for this!

Assign custom hotkeys by python Aug. 10, 2026, 7:08 a.m.

Hi, I want to assign custom hotkeys to a list of my shelf tools by python.
In a loop I remove assignment conflicts for each hotkey and use .addAssignment() and .saveOverrides().
Hotkeys conflict removal is saved by houdini in an hotkey override file but not the new assignments.
Actually in edit tool window I can see hotkeys are set for each tool but it won't save overrides.

Docs says (in a line) assigning a hotkey is like a default setting and not saved until you make changes to it!!! WTH! To what? How?

So I tried in that loop to change the tool help or its scrpit or lable or default language after assignment but houdini don't save hotkey changes to override file and hotkeys don't work!

Please let me know if I am doing it wrong or it's a bug, thanks
