$FSTART and $FEND Jan. 7, 2015, 1:02 p.m.
Hi!
Maybe a beginners question but where do the houdini engine in maya get $FSTART and $FEND values from? They seem to be stuck at houdinis default values (1 and 240).
We start our shots at frame 1001 at our company, and this has caused some issues with some nodes. For example the trail sop has an option to “Evaluate Within Frame Range”. We need to uncheck it to make it work as expected.
Cheers!

Shadow ray distance (in volumes) Jan. 3, 2015, 5:53 a.m.
Is it possible to get the distance the current ray has travelled?
I'm looking into doing something similar to this:
http://magnuswrenninge.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Wrenninge-OzTheGreatAndVolumetric.pdf [magnuswrenninge.com]
where they have a nice way of simulating multiple scattering in volumes by varying some parameters along the shadow ray.
