I just want to add some clarity here:
x11 is NOT supported on modern desktops.
For Houdini, we can use xWayland, but this presents issues especially with the new QT UI.
It is imperative to the health of Houdini that Wayland be set on the roadmap, mainly out of caution, to avoid being the last to switch in the pool of studio software.
It would cause major issues if they choose to transition too late, rather than too early.
Just because your studios use old Ubuntu and x11 doesn't mean it is the wise to deprioritize the standard.
