In Houdini, attributes can be moved between input streams. This video shows two ways of transferring with one being position and proximity based, whilst the other is based on an identifying attribute or topology.

    @ptnum is the seed for rand(), what does the second seed input do? Are the two seeds added together?

    The documentation is mute - it tells us we can feed in a second seed, but not what it does or why.
