KeenTools has released the Open Beta of GeoTracker for Houdini, a fully integrated matchmove solution that brings powerful geometry-based object and camera tracking directly into Houdini.

KeenTools has earned a strong reputation in the VFX industry for its accessible, computer-vision-driven tools. The GeoTracker plugin – already well established in Nuke, After Effects, and Blender – is now available natively in Houdini, giving VFX artists, motion designers, and generalists the same fast, accurate tracking technology they’ve relied on in other applications.

This integration delivers a major workflow upgrade for Houdini users. GeoTracker’s intuitive design allows artists to easily handle matchmoving tasks entirely on their own, directly in-scene, even with no prior tracking experience. By pulling camera and object tracks straight from 2D reference footage, the tool eliminates department handoffs and the need to switch applications, saving significant time and letting users jump immediately into creative FX work. Reconstructing real-world 2D motion on the fly in Houdini also unlocks greater artistic freedom for simulations and layouts.

Built natively as a SOP node, GeoTracker supports both Houdini’s classic OBJ and Solaris workflows, with seamless import and export of cameras and object tracks in either context. It also includes automatic focal length estimation, zoom tracking, and the ability to track custom heads created in FaceBuilder as rigid objects. Tracked geometry can be turned instantly into colliders, emitters, or motion drivers for FX pipelines.

To help users get up to speed quickly, KeenTools partnered with Houdini educator David Torno from FendraFx.com to create a complete learning workshop: an in-depth 3+ hour Deep Dive tutorial, Quick Start and installation guides.

The Open Beta launch is supported by a series of FX shots and breakdowns from a group of talented artists in the Houdini community, who have already tested the tool in a production environment:
