I just installed the Houdini Apprentice (12.1) on my MacPro running OSX 10.7.5 and I get the following error:

1/9/13 5:30:38.834 PM .com.sidefx.Houdini: DistutilsPlatformError: invalid Python installation: unable to open /usr/include/python2.6/pyconfig.h (No such file or directory)

I checked my python version and I am running 2.7.1

I tried setting the HOUDINI_PYTHON_VERSION in the houdini.env but got the following error:

1/9/13 5:53:02.214 PM .com.sidefx.Houdini: Invalid value for HOUDINI_PYTHON_VERSION: 2.7

and

1/9/13 6:04:15.983 PM .com.sidefx.Houdini: File “/Library/Frameworks/Houdini.framework/Versions/12.1.185/Resources/houdini/python2.6libs/houdinihelp/__init__.py”, line 44, in <module>

It looks like the apprentice version does not install the python libs and headers.

Is there anyway to Houdini Apprentice to work with python 2.7? Does the HD version work with python 2.7? Or to download the missing 2.6 files?

–Thanks

Did you previously have XCode installed and upgraded your OSX version? You problem sounds like the issue discussed here (with solution):
