why doesnt transform motion blur work on my rotating objects

i hae a scene with rotating objects and an animated camera.. the animation of the objects is at SOP level, and the animation of the camera at object level

i cant seem to find motion blur setting tat take both of these events into account…

i can get the rotatiing objects to blur using derformation blur (this makes no sense to me as they are transforming, not deforming) but i cant get the blur to take into account the motion of the camera at all..

velocity attributre and transform blur have no effect whatsoever on anything inthe scene.. i have the attributes set on the objects, the camera and on the mantra rop..

confused!!!

You answered your own question and you were wrong in your assumption that transforms in SOPs are considered an object transform with respect to motion blur.

Simply put, Transformations are at the Object Level, Deformations are at the SOP level. Real simple.

No matter what you do to geometry in SOPs, it is considered a geometry deformation. Think of it this way, if you are moving the geometry relative to it's own origin, you have deforming geometry. If you are transforming the object's origin directly, then you have a transformation.

In your case, you need to use deformation motion blur to correctly pick up the camera object transform and the geometry deformations.
There's at least one school like the old school!

It might also make more sense when you understand that Mantra will currently only render linear motion-blur regardless of if your camera is rotating or not. If you set your playbar to allow you to move at non-integer frames, then set your current frame to frame+shutter (eg. look at at frame 2 and then set your current frame to 2.5) - it can only motion blur a straight line between the two positions. Things like spinning propellors don't render a circle like you'd expect. The same is true for deformations/velocity blurred things like particle systems: no subframe movement between frame and frame+shutter will be rendered. Once you understand this, a lot more about motion-blur in mantra starts to make sense.
