Blowtorch in Pyro ?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to make a blowtorch in Pyro, like a reactor flame (here my goal was to make it looks like the little Iron Man reactor). I'm not satisfied with the result, I mean it works, it's a bit more “artistic”, but I was not able to find how to make a beautiful burst flame, like a candle flame but with a higher velocity I think.

So my question is, how can I achieve this kind of look ?

Pyro is pretty addicting but it's sometimes complicated to get the shape I want !

(it's an old version, now the fire is colliding and “sliding” on the ground)

Thanks !

Hi there.
Do you have a video, or at least, an image of your reference?

The iron man reactor thing is a bit loose…

You really don't need to use a fluid sim for a blow torch effect. You can generate the shape in sops and create a volume from that, using the pyro shader for the render.

Hey Icarus,

Thanks for your answer. I thought about it actually, I wasn't sure that it was a good solution. But you're right, I should try it…

But it can't be made with pyro ?

It's sometimes hard to get the look you want with pyro, and only for learning purposes it would be great if someone can explain it to me !

Thanks

Can pyro not just do a steady emit? it's always flickering and pulsing. i feel like that should be controllable.

I cant really download these things for work. is there a parameter or combination of parameters that controls the pulsing in the fire? i suspect it is heat and temperature. i ahve all the noise turned off of them and yet they still have extremely fast flicker.

That's too bad, because that otl is a simple easy to use pyro setup.

I'd say start with a high velocity source, turn off noise in the source – so it has little to no variations in the denstiy / temperature /fuel. Then turn off the turbulence and shredding and disturbance in the pyro solver. The shape of the source and also make a big difference as well.
