I recently bought Houdini indie but now sitting with a problem… I'm using mixamo fuse which is listed as a companion product, meaning that the 2 products should work fairly well together. Much to my dismay, this isn't the case. I create my character using fuse. It only allows me to export as .obj/.mtl, in order to convert it to fbx, I have to upload it to their site which I'm reluctant to do, especially because I don't want my character auto-rigged, I want to rig it in Houdini but Houdini doesn't support .obj/.mtl. I tried autodesk fbx converter and anycad 3d exchange none of which are working. I'm running out of ideas and its getting really frustrating. Any help will be appreciated… Thank you in advance

houdini does support obj (use File > Import > Geometry, or in a geometry node put down a file SOP)
but Houdini does NOT support *.mtl files…no one does really…
you can just open that in a text editor to see what's going on - it's very easy to re-build the materials in Houdini using the mtl as a guide - you wouldnt really want the materials that an mtl is describing anyway…

Thank you for the reply… It's giving me a head ache of note. I'm still new to Houdini, so I'm learning its ins and outs. It seems to be much more complicated than other programs but you can do so much more at the end of the day. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to rebuild the materials. Thanks man

if you read the mtl file and then in SHOPs place a Mantra Surface down for each different material you'll quicky see where to set the values/textures…
here is a handy guide to what the terms mean in the mtl file:
