Hi,
I'm french but i always use qwerty us keyboard under Linux (archlinux fr_FR@UTF-8). In the xterm (and all other x apps), i can type accented characters like èéà but not in the font SOP text parameter.
If i copy/past from other app to font SOP text parameter, accent appear but only in this text parameter. Not in the 3d view.
I know that the font used come with all accent i need.
I've seen here: http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=5516&highlight= [sidefx.com] that there is a problem with accent. Is it always the case?
Is there a trick to do this?
I've tried to enter the ascii code directly but that work only with non accented char (with \code).
Thanks

I have seen this problem in other 3D software packages as well.
One solution is to just type your phrase in Illustrator or Inkscape and export a .EPS or .AI file. Houdini can read this file and you can follow up the File node with an extrude to make your text 3D.

The article you point to is from 2006. Since then, the font SOP was fixed and should handle accents properly. Provided the font itself supports those glyphs.
Do the characters show up in the 3D view if you switch to “Helvetica”?

Yes, that work with many fonts. I may have omited to validate/recalculate the node.
But only when pasting from other app like xterm.
My keyboard layout is US-intl with qwerty-fr http://marin.jb.free.fr/qwerty-fr/index.php [marin.jb.free.fr] and if i type accent, they appear as diamond shaped ? in reverse color.
I need to type Alt-Gr+w for é for example.
