Hello,

This is my third tutorial i did.
Managed to finish it all the way.
But have few questions.
Tutorial is here: https://vimeo.com/149939158 [vimeo.com]

Question: Is it possible to add material to that growing thingy?
How to do that?
I added picture where you can see network inside there.
Should i add material some how to torus1?
or
Because what i understand is that this liquid stuff grows OVER the torus so if i add material to torus will not effect that growing stuff?
(Note! don't even know how to add material to torus.)
If anyone can help me out a bit i will be very happy.

Atm need to sleep a bit as i googled so muych and messed around in Houdini so been up straight
18 hours. Need a bit sleep.

+ i don`t know why but my brain seems to work better at night then day

Be back in few hours and i will continue with all my topics.

Best regards
Tanel.V

Materials can be added at the top level to a SOP object, there is a Materials tab for that.

But you can just drop down a Material node anywhere along your network chain. Material nodes also have a group field that can be leveraged. So the material only applies to part of an object defined by a group.

It seems that it does not work.
I added few and also project file.
I hope it helps you to help me.
Because there are 2 things
1.) object itself
2.) the growing stuff that makes at end the shape of the object.

When i added material node in to the Geometry level i see no change conneccted material node to deiferent nodes there bu8t did not see any effect.
Also selected “material” node and went to Material Palette and added material there but it did not work.

So even when i added materials i cant see them on my render vie as it is still red

Question:
From what parameter or option those white dots can come from?
I added 4 pictures
1 is when i have sky light on
2 is where i deleted nodes that sky light creates
3 is where i show to where i added material node
4 is where is show what materials i did selected and applied
5 another example where you can see clearly those white dots.

Got previous issue solved.
As i have constantly new questions regarding same project i will post them here so this forum main page does not contain only my topics as i do not want to spamm. I just want to learn.

Here is a new question regarding same project,

For example what i wanted here was that first this object evolves and then when it is done evolving it will dissolve with particles or some other effect.
I was able to export out TIF sequence to my drive and from there i imported them to Adobe After Effects where i was able to use inside particle effects but had some issues there also.
Here is sample i made:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEmzG45coAY [youtube.com]

And here is a question.
How to apply another effect to the first effect here in houdini?
So it will apply only from specific time to specific element?

One way to handle multiple effects is to simply create a new GEO object at the OBJ level and dive inside. Throw away the File node and drop down an ObjectMerge. Point the merge to the final node in your original effect. Choose Transform Into This Object.

Here is an example file that takes an animated mountain sphere and then continues an effect to fracture that source.

Original is RED, continued is BLUE.

Hi,

I was working on this tutorial:
https://vimeo.com/156396707 [vimeo.com]

Managed to do this
And now i wanted to apply this effect to my previous project object
Project that i attached on this post you can see on obj level

First project files:
Growth_ehk_geo1
arealight1
arealight2
cam1

The second project files i did bring from Houdini (opening same program 2 times one where i had one project open and another where i had another project open, and used copy paste method from one houdini to another)

Nodes like:
Breaking
AutoDotNetwork
glue_pice0_to_pice99
BOX_Static
those are from that secont project.

WHat i wanted to do was to apply that disolving effect that i have on second project to the first project object.
So at end it will start to disolve same way.
I went inside of the second project file Breaking and disconnected node and created inside object_merge1
and at end transformbyattrib1
But as you play back the file you can see that obejct is affected but does not disolve same way as in tutorial.
If u look at tutorial at start he shows what he will create.
And u can see in attachment picture that i added where you see that i cant apply that effect to my project.

Note! I wanted to make it this way that the second project effect starts from frame 400 and before runs the first project effect.
If anyone know how to solve this and can fir it please do so and atach the file so i can see and check what i did wrong there.
Been up 18 hours straight learning houdini and reading materials etc. Will go sleep a bit.
Back in few hours.

Best regards Tanel.V

How to apply effect to the growth that i have on first effect?
Atm i see that it added the Sphere.
I added pictures and also project file.
What i wanted was that effect that is applied to Sphere (look at picture below)
is applied to Torus object (look at picture below) but only after the first object growing part is done (effect on first object is that it grows and evolves to object torus)

But is it possible to use blend shapes but in Geometry level?
I have 2 different effects on diferent nodes and i want them to blend in to one?
