Hi

I am trying to setup a Redshift Render Farm via Deadline by testing on 2 PCs as slaves.
Does each of slave/PCs need to have a Houdini installed and Houdini license too ?

Cheers

In renderfarm setups you usually have 2 steps for every render process.

The first on writes out a file that describes the whole scene for each frame.(.rib,.ifd,.ass)
The second process renders that file without the need to access dcc specific information. Therefore not needing a license for that DCC anymore.

I'm sure RS can be configured the same way. Maybe ask on the DL forum on how to achieve this process.

Good luck.

Like Manuel said but there are some limitations depending on what license you have. If you have Houdini Fx or Core, you can export a Redshift scene .rs file to run on the commandline redshift which you can launch with deadline. There is an option in the deadline submitter too for that.

If you have an Indie license then you won't be able to export a camera in that .rs file due to Indie limitations. If you have Indie, however, you can use up to 3 houdini indie engine licenses which can be installed on your farm. This will let you run the render through houdini on your farm.
