Lava Falls

I'm struggling trying to figure out best practices to create a lava fall (a waterfall but made of lava!)

I've found some artist that have done and created controls in Unreal for it but might anyone have thoughts on how I could aim for something like this?

Well, what have you tried? You could use flowmaps on a static mesh. You could do a viscous fluid sim and export as vertex animation textures. You could use Simon Trumplers technique to move a mesh along a spline - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/BmN5G6 [www.artstation.com]
